You're at the right place if you . . .
-
find yourself questioning parts of Mormonism that everyone else around you seems to believe
-
are scared that something is wrong with you, that maybe you're being deceived
-
feel like you don't quite fit in or belong at church
-
keep doubling down on prayer, reading your scriptures, serving others, hoping the questions will go away
-
are going through the motions at church while something deep inside of you is saying, "This doesn't feel right"
-
identify as something other than "straight" and feel lost and alone in the church
This is about your faith
First and foremost, a faith crisis/journey/transformation, is about you and your relationship with faith and the divine. It just so happens that Mormonism is the vehicle of your faith. It has helped frame your faith, but let's be clear, this has less to do about Mormonism and more to do about your personal faith. When we first start doubting and questioning, it feels like it is all about the church. As you go on this journey, you will realize that ultimately, this is about you developing your own faith, with Mormonism as a backdrop.
"Certainty falling away doesn't mean faith is gone. It means it's growing up." --Kate Bowler

My Story
I grew up in Provo, UT. My father taught at BYU. The majority of people in my neighborhood and schools were Mormon. I served a mission, got married in the temple, graduated from BYU. And I always felt like I was on the outside. While my parents encouraged me to ask questions, my curiosity wasn't always welcome in church. Most of my life was spent wrestling with questions.
Yet, I believed. I was all in. I loved many of the teachings in the church, especially the idea that I could have a personal relationship with God. Still, I struggled. A lot. I wrestled with depression and a constant feeling like I was not good enough. I became a consummate people-pleaser, constantly striving to prove my worth while making sure everyone around me was happy.
Eventually, I went through a "dark night of the soul." It was one of the most painful times of my life. It took me about ten years after that before I started to trust myself and got enough courage to leave the church. Since then, I have felt more joy and peace than I knew was possible.

I do not advocate that everyone who is doubting should leave the church. One of my deepest held beliefs is that everyone has their own personal spiritual journey. My job as a coach is simply to walk beside you, ask questions, and encourage you as you go through the challenging process of questioning. Whether you leave the church or stay, doubts and questions force you to redefine your faith. It is a process that requires courage. I am here to help you dig deep and find your courage, your truth.
